Nestled beneath the Constantiaberg Mountains and flanked by the
vineyards of South Africa's oldest wine farm, Steenberg, with a
2010 ranking of 30 in SA is a true gem situated ± 25 km from the
Cape Town City Bowl. Designer, Peter Matkovitch, has followed the
gentle natural slopes of the estate and created a challenge by
introducing large waste bunkers, running creeks, water hazards and
excellent greens. Apart from the superb golf there is a luxury 5*
hotel, winery and restaurant on the estate.
A flight of 4 visitors requires that 2 caddies be used. A 2-ball
requires 1 caddy. These stipulations are regardless of whether or not
drive buggies are used.
Take M3-South from Cape Town; take the Tokai turn-off and turn right
into Tokai Road. Left into Steenberg road at the circle. Course appears
on your right.
Personal note from Ashley:
Steenberg has very large greens with an excellent restaurant on the
estate. They have a well-stocked
pro shop, which includes a limited supply of golf shoes. Ironically
this plush 5* golf estate is situated
not even a chip and a putt from Pollsmoor Prison where Mandela was
incarcerated for 5 of his
lengthy 27 year jail sentence.
